It is Well (Bethel Music)
I found this song a few months ago (ironically, just when my life was starting it's spiral downward for the rest of 2016). It played on the first morning after one of the most important people in my life left to pursue an out of state opportunity. Little did I know, this song would come to mean a lot more to me. Fast forward two months, yet another person who I had clung to had announced that he was leaving. Again, I found myself turning to this song for comfort. Fast forward again only a couple of weeks, it was now Christmastime. I found out that one of my best friends didn't want to be friends anymore, and that he had betrayed me in a way I'd never thought possible. This completely tore me apart. All of these problems coming down on me within such a short amount of time made it impossible for me to see God working. But this song was always there, as a constant reminder: "let go, my soul, and trust in Him". This song led to many cleansing crying sessions, and I hope that if you are in need of a good cry, you can find your comfort in this song and in Jesus.
King of My Heart (John & Sarah McMillan)
I go to a Christian school, and for a few weeks straight during chapel last semester they played this song. The thing about this song that always gets me is the "You are good" part. As explained with the last song, the end of my 2016 was rough, but hearing so many people singing and shouting "You are good" and "You're never gonna let me down" was so encouraging and it has truly been imprinted on my heart. If you need a reminder of God's goodness, take a listen.
Street Called Mercy (Hillsong United)
This hasn't always been one of my favorites from the Empires album, it never really appealed to me at first. But one day, I started listening. This is one of those songs that can really take you back to the moment (or moments) you first decided to follow Jesus. Or the moments when you were just completely broken and Jesus picked you up and held you. Not only is the music intriguing, but the message is beautiful. "Throwing Your arms around me, You held me like I was Yours, like You'd been there the hole time waiting...I was found in You."
